The United States government relocated many Native American tribes after the Indian Removal Act of 1830. The tribes used to live is their territories and were forced to relocate from their homelands in the South part of the U.S. to the regions West to the Mississippi River. Native American tribes such as the Cherokee, the Chickasaw, Ponca, and Choctaw, suffered disease and hunger in their path to their new locations. That is why they call it the Trail of Tears.  

The most condemned relocation was the Cherokee relocation from 1836 to 1839. They use to live in the territories of Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, the Carolinas, and Alabama. Many Indians died in the trajectory.
