A truck was carrying 2 1/8 tons of sand. When arrived only 1 1/2 tons of sand were left. How much sand was lost along the way

The answer is 1 5/8 because 2 1/8 is equal to
2 2/16 and 1 1/2 is equal to 1 8/16 and 2 2/16 minus
1 8/16 equals 1 10/16 which also equals 1 5/8
