In pea plants, purple flowers (P) are dominant over white flowers (p). If two heterozygous purple-flowered plants are crossed with each other, then what are the possible genotypes of the offspring?

A) Pp only

B) PP and pp

C) Pp and pp

D) Pp, PP and pp

Respuesta :

When you are talking about a heterozygous cross, then it both of those flowers would be Pp. If you were to do the Punnett Square, then the possible genotypes could be Pp, PP and pp. Which means the answer would be D.

Answer:

The answer is D) Pp, PP and pp

Explanation:

According to Mendel's "law of dominance", the allele that expressed in F1  hybrid is called is called dominant gene. The phenotype of the hybrid is expressed by the dominant gene.

In the given question, the two heterozygous purple-flowered ( Pp) plants are crossed with each other.

As a  result of a cross  between two heterozygous parents, offspring with three genotypes, PP, Pp and pp will appear. Among them PP is homozygous purple flowers, Pp is heterozygous purple flowers and pp is homozygous white flowers.

This can be depicted through cross in in the Punnet square.
