 Working gave women a newfound independence, so they continued to work in different kinds of jobs. During World war I, since the men went out to fight in war, a large number of women were recruited into the jobs that men were doing. The high demand for weapons resulted in women being employed in munition factories. Women workers were in high demand and this led them to work in areas that were once reserved only for men. Some of the, include railway guards, postal workers, firefighters, clerks, civil service and some women even worked in heavy machinery and engineering
