I would say this sentence would have the characteristics of a historic text as it compares spending time outside with enduring a difficult job in an office and from my experience writing history, one often has to compare what happened before ie spending time outside, with what is going on now ie working in the office or say, in ancient underground mines breaking rock with fire instead of now using explosives and getting much more rapid advance in the mining.
