These abiotic factors directly or indirectly affects the biotic or living components of the ecosystem. A housing development is situated near a river that flows into a bay. Here, fertilizer is a abiotic factor which is being runoff from lawns because fertilizers usually contains chemicals that can contaminate the water of the bay. The chemicals present in the fertilizers can be consumed by aquatic animals hence, can have detrimental effect on them.
Therefore, the amount of fertilizer runoff coming from lawns is an abiotic factor on land that would directly affect the marine ecosystem in the bay.
