Virginia Beach is located right near a body of water, compared to Springfield, which is more inland. Being near the water allows for temperature mediation in both the summer and the winter, with temperatures being held down in the summer by winds coming onshore and slightly warmer in the winter by the water taking longer to drop in temperature than the nearby land.
