A subject complement is also known as a predicate noun-

A subject complement is the adjective, noun, or pronoun that appears in a sentence after a linking verb. It is also called  predicative of the subject.

It is a predicative expression placed right after a linking verb also called copula and that complements the subject of the sentence by either renaming it or describing it.

It completes the meaning of the subject.
