A: It is often a small part of sill

Answer: It is often a small part of a sill.

Batholith is a large body of intrusive igneous rock. It is formed due to subduction of large rocks near the mantle of earth which creates space for the release of magma. This magma remains beneath the earth crust gets  cooled and solidified and produce igneous rocks beneath the earth crust.  The batholith is exposed and uplifted to the outer surface of earth crust by erosion of upper layers. It may form the core of a mountain range if the batholith is formed beneath the mountain body.
