The imposition of heavy taxes and restrictions frustrated American colonists and eventually contributed to the American Revolution. Defenders of mercantilism argued that the economic system creates stronger economies by bringing colonies and founding countries together.

Mercantilism changed the world and made it was it is today. During that period the importance and power of a country were based on its wealth. Countries began to expand their commerce between Europe, the Middle East and Asia (it all began with the crusades). But soon European powers noticed that they needed new places to explore and started to sail further away to Asia. In one of the trips to Asia, one explorer took the wrong turn and discovered a new land which was the American Continent. With this started a new period in the history of the world, now European Powers had colonies in the new world where they would explore, they would remove goods and explore the land to their own profits.

The problem was that for years and years those colonies were explored by European Powers such as Portugal, Spain, and France. Those colonies were neglected by them and only mattered because of the wealth they provided to Europe. Once the population that developed that got tired of the endless exploration many revolutions erupted.
