The election increased tensions because there were 2 groups. People supporting Alexander Hamilton apposing political parties believing it would corrupt the government. People supporting Thomas Jefferson wanted to have political parties. All this drama was increased when newspapers would write about why they should believe one side. (newspapers also would spread rumors as well)
