The american federation of labor was instrumental in achieving the establishment of the Department of Labor. The Department of Labor was created in 1913 to help improve the work conditions for U.S workers, promote the welfare of U.S. wage earners and help employers find workers. It also protects worker's retirement and health care benefits, strengthens the free collective bargaining, and tracks changes in employment and wages.
