Steam locomotives lower the cost of transportations or raw material and finished goods for multiple reasons. The first one is that steam locomotives were developed during the 19th century and replaced other ways of transportation such as horses that were limited as only a few articles could be transported and slower as it took more time to take the articles from one place to another, this made horse transportation and other means of transportation ineffective and more expensive. Also, steam locomotives and railways imply those materials and goods could be taken to more places and this was not limited to certain geographical conditions such as the existence of rivers in the case of steamboats, this made easier and cheaper to take articles to different areas. Finally, steam locomotives were key as more raw materials could be taken to factories to create articles, this meant the transportation of raw materials was cheaper and such the process of manufacturing and transportation of finished good was equally cheaper.
