This is a quadratic equation, so you have to factor it.
I will show you how to factor this equation by using the quadratic formula because it is my favorite way of figuring these types of problems out.
Quad. Form: -b +/- √b² - 4ac
-------------------
2a
ax² + bx + c
a = 1
b = 10
c = 25
-10 +/- √(10)² - 4(1)(25) -10 +/- √100 - 4(25) -10 +/- √100 - 100
----------------------------- ⇒ ----------------------------- ⇒ ----------------------------
2(1) 2 2
-10 +/- √0 -10 +/- 0 -10 + 0 -10 -10 - 0
---------------- ⇒ ------------- ⇒ ----------- = -------- = -5 AND ---------- = -5
2 2 2 2 2
In this case, x can only equal -5, but in many quadratic formulas, there can be multiple solutions for x.
