Radical Republicans showed that the Congress should be the deciding body in implementing social reconstruction and their party to be the best equipped to oversee that those changes are implemented. This was evident in their actions in opposing President Lincoln's terms to reunite the US, they demanded a more aggressive prosecution of those that supported the Confederacy and to ultimately erase Confederacy, they also wanted to have a faster action to abolish slavery. And after the assassination of President Lincoln, they overrode most of the bills that President Johnson vetoed and even found a way to remove him from the office.
