Dr. B. Rush believed that Yellow Fever could be treated by ridding the body toxins that were located in the blood, by an aggressive treatment of bleeding and purging for his patients. On the other hand, the French doctors, lead by Dr Jean Deveze, refused to believe that yellow fever was contagious so he disapproved his theory (the aggressive treatment) and later on, he became a world authority on the subject.
