1. Kim's age is twice that of her sister. When you add Kim's age to her sister's age, you get 36. How old is each sister?
(a) Write an equation that represents the situation. Explain any variable used.
(b) Solve the equation from Part (a). Show your work. State your solution as a complete sentence.

Respuesta :

let Kim's sisters age be x
then Kim's age= 2x
so when adding both ages you get 36
2x+x=36 i. e 3x=36 (x rep Kim's sisters age)

so x=36/3 = 12
kim sister's age is 12 years
while kim is 2×12= 24years
So because Kim's age is twice the age of her sister an appropriate ratio could be
Kim : Sister   2 : 1
So because you know thier ages are combined to 36 you could divide 36 by 3 which is 12 then you would need to double it for Kim.
So their ages are
Kim- 24
sister- 12
