The stages in the formation of a rock are a factor of very long time period due to the chemical processes involved. Hence, a stage within a rock cycle usually takes thousands to millions of years.
The rock cycle describes the series of processes which rocks undergo during their formation into igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks.
While igneous rocks are formed from the cooling and solidification of magma, sedimentary and metamorphic processes involves the burial or diagnesis of rocks over several thousands to millions of years under heat and and pressure.
Then buried sediments starts to compact as accumulation of sediments continues over Millions of years in continous procession.
Therefore, undergoing a stage within a rock cycle usually takes thousands to millions of years.
