Archaic cultures are characterized by a gathering of basic qualities as opposed to a specific day and age or area; in Mesoamerica, Age-Archaic cultures existed from around 8,000– 2,000 BC, while some Archaic cultures in the Great Basin of the U.S. Southwest started at about a similar time however held on well into the nineteenth century.
