The part of the brain that Samuel is mostly affected by the accident is the hippocampus. The hippocampus is responsible of producing emotions of an individual and in the same way, they are also responsible of memories, mainly long term memory in which if he has retrograde amnesia, he will have difficulty in making new memories and even recalling things in his past.

This condition often caused by the damage in part of brain that had the  capability to store short-term memory, which is the function of the hippocampus.
