The correct answer is this one: tribal affiliations and ethnic populations. This has led to many ethic conflicts, such as the ones caused by the many different ethnic populations being in one country, (and those enthic groups are struggling for power and influence) which would not have happened, if the boundaries were decided by the natives (in a way, the current conflict in Ukraine is a result of this).
