A soccer player practices kicking the ball into the goal from halfway down the soccer field. The time it takes for the ball to get to the goal fro the time it is kicked averages about three seconds. The soccer field is 90 meters long. The player wants to know the average velocity of the ball. Is there enough information to calculate this?

To find a constant velocity, we divide the distance by the time

We have:
Distance = 45  meters ⇒ The ball is kicked half way down the soccer field, so the distance that the ball traveled is 90 ÷ 2 = 45 meters
Time = 3 seconds

We have enough information to work out the velocity

v = s ÷ t
v = 45 ÷ 3 
v = 15 m/s
