It is the largest public square in the urban center of Cairo, Egypt. The square was originally called "Midan Ismailia", after the mandate of the viceroy Ismail, who promoted the new design of the urban center of Cairo. After the 1952 Egyptian Revolution, which transformed Egypt from a constitutional monarchy into a republic, the square was renamed "Midan Tahrir" or Liberation Square, as has been said at the beginning.
