x = the length of the shadow.

Triangles  ABC and ADE are similar because of AAA.
Therefore
[tex] \frac{AB}{AD} = \frac{BC}{DE} \\\\ \frac{x}{x+11} = \frac{2}{4} = \frac{1}{2}\\\\ 2x =x+11 \\\\ x = 11 [/tex]

Answer: The shadow is 11 m long.
