During the course of the story, General Zaroff started hunting Rainsford and Rainsford become the hunted. At the climax of the game, after all the travails that Rainsford experience in the course of ruining away from General Zaroff he came to a sudden realiazation of what it meants to be the hunted and it then have an idea of what the animals he was hunting before must have gone through.
