There were many complex things that accounted for ethnic cleansing in the Balkans during the 1990s, but the best option is "the removal of Bosnian Serbs from political power"

During the 1990s a Serbian nationalist movement led by Slobodan Milosevic, took place in the Balkans. Slobodan Milosevic has also been called  "The butcher of the Balkans" because of how he ordered to kill and dismember thousands of Slovenians, most of them civilians, women and kids during the Kosovo War of 1999. He was condemned by his crimes in 2006 but was found dead shortly after inside his prison cell.
