There are three modifiers in logic that you can apply to a conditional (if..then) statement.
The first is the converse which is where you just change the spots of the if and the then. If it does not have exactly three sides, it is a rectangle. We can see that this is not true though. The converse of a conditional statement is not always logically sound.
The next is the inverse, which is where you negate the if and then. If it is not a rectangle, then it has exactly three sides. This also isn't a logically sound statement.
The type of statement that is always logically sound is called the contrapositive. This is where you mix the converse and the inverse by switching the if and then and negating them both. This would give us If it has exactly three sides, then it is not a rectangle.
