I'm not sure that all fictional stories do have a moral, but it makes you think about what's happening, about the characters, how they react....
Your emotions, feelings are awake....
You normally have either empathy, sympathy for the characters. You understand them quite well or it's the total opposite.
So, I think fiction stories may teach you a lot about yourself, helping you to understand feelings you might never have had.
