This theory describes the awareness of the circumstances that surround individuals and how behaviors are being affected by their surrounding. It is focused on the importance of the contributions of the society on the development of an individual. It proposes that learning for human is mainly a social process. It does not only focuses on how peers and adults affect learning but also how attitudes and cultural beliefs impact learning. This theory is based in the works of psychologist Vygotsky. He believed that peers, caregivers, parents and culture primarily are responsible for the development the higher level functions.
