QSEN stands for Quality and Safety Education for Nurses. This project inludes three phases. Its purpose is to prepare future nurses in honing their knowledge, skills and right attitude that are essential in improving the quality of healthcare systems. In phase,I, the list of competencies are listed as follows:
1. Patient Centered Care
2. Teamwork and Collaboration
3. Evidence-Based Practice
4. Quality Improvement
5. Safety
6. Informatics
Let's focus on the Evidence-Based Practice. This is the ingenuity of nurses to research clinical methods that improve the treatment of various injuries, pains and diseases. They must have the critical mind and background before applying medical care. An example for this is researching new ways of treating acute muscle strains. It was widely known before to apply ice first for 24 hours, followed by heat to increase blood flow. But with evidence-based practice, the nurse have researched that it is optimal to use heat only. Thus, when applying medical care, she puts into practice the validated results of this research studies.
