-Newton's First Law of Motion states that an object at rest remains at rest unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. It is also states that an object in motion remains in motion and at constant velocity unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. This law is very vital in skydiving.
-Once the parachute is opened, the air resistance overwhelms the downward force of gravity. The net force and the acceleration on the falling skydiver is upward. An upward net force on a downward falling object would cause that object to slow down.
