The reconstruction era was a period after American Civil War when there were efforts to reintegrating the states into Union and also determination of the legal status of African Americans.

The Positive effect of the reconstruction era was that the Blacks become politically active because they worked in government positions and created the first public schools for White and Black.

The Negative effect of the reconstruction era was the black codes because most southern states created laws that limited former slaves from traveling, voting and working in certain jobs.

In conclusion, the reconstruction era was an impetus to beginning of slaves' freedom.
