The Reconstruction was a time period between 1865 and 1877 after the Civil War. The three groups that benefited the most were Scalawags, carpetbaggers and freedmen. The Scalawags were white men who assisted the northern Republicans during the time period, they benefited from this since they ended up obtaining a lot of profit. Carpetbaggers were people from the northern states who moved to the South looking to benefit from the Reconstruction. While the freedmen where the slaves that became emancipated after the war.
