A student solved a system of equations by elimination The answer is not correct Describe the error made in the part of the solution shown class=

Respuesta :

When multiplying by (-4) ---? -3*(-4)=12, not 3! lol

The error made in the part of the solution is when equation (2) is multiplied by -4 it is not multiplied both side .

What is elimination method?

The elimination method is the process of eliminating one of the variables in the system of linear equations using the addition or subtraction methods in conjunction with multiplication or division of coefficients of the variables.

According to the question

5x + 4y= 2 ------------------- (1)

3x + 3y = -3 ------------------- (2)

Now,

solving both equation by elimination method

Multiplying equation (1) by 3 and by 2 to equation (-4)

So, y  can be eliminated

3(5x + 4y)=2 * 3

15x + 12y = 6 -------------- (3)

-4(3x + 3y) = -3*-4

-12x - 12y = 12 -----------------(4)

Now,

Adding both eq(3) and (4)

3x = 18

x = 6

Putting value of x in eq(1)

5*6 + 4y = 2

30 + 4y = 2

4y = 2 - 30

4y = - 28

y = -6

Hence, the error made in the part of the solution is when equation (2) is multiplied by -4 it is not multiplied both side .
