If you mean by improving our role, one answer is you can't really. I mean you could realize what roles you are meant to play but somethings are just going to happen. For example, let's say a student does really well in a class and often helps other students. The teacher notices this and suggest that they become a tutor and doing that (let's say) every week then they realize their great desire to teach and help others which leads them to eventually become a teacher. The point is that you might be brought into something that you like or dislike and it may reshape your role in the world.
One way to cope with process of changing roles is to understand that it is meant to be. Some things are just meant to happen. We often think of it as accidents or coincidences but to be honest, certain events are meant to happen in life so that you or someone can go into the role that are meant to play. We (as humans) often change roles because that is what we are needed for. For example, a single father may suddenly get into a car crash and can't function well. Someone in the family (usually the oldest) would take over and try to care for the family. It is not a role he/she may have wanted but it can't be helped.
(I apologize for grammar errors and if this didn't answer the question very well)

Explanation:
Society, in fact, requires that people take some responsibilities and, indeed, play a role. As this is so important for the appropriate function of this system, it's necessary that each person knows what his/her duties are, however, these won't be the same through life, like babies, who have a different role from a student and a worker. For this reason people should be able to identify what their strengths are how they can use this to favor the current society.
As the individuals have to identify how they can help from their positions, it's also expected that the society gives them back some rights in order to, somehow, return what people is trying to offer. In conclusion, individuals should target their best features and try to understand how they could be used in favor of the system, but also, the society has to return them, in any way, the work they're doing.
