There were many similarities between the kingdoms of Ghana and Mali. Some of them are: both were created in the same region, West Africa; both relied heavily on trade; both produced an abundant amount of gold; and many more.

Ghana is officially the Republic of Ghana. It shares borders with the Ivory Coast in the west, Burkina Faso in the north, Togo in the east, and the Atlantic Ocean to the south, all the countries of West Africa.
The empire of Ghana is also known as Wagadou or Awkar. It was a West African empire that was based in the modern-day southeast of Mauritania and western Mali that existed from c. 300 until c. 1100.
As a result of neighboring the Mali Empire, there were many similarities between both empires.
