A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry, the symbol which most likely which represents the following society's expectations is "Eat your eggs!"
The dialogue between Walter and Ruth wherein, Walter states, "Man says to his woman: I got me a dream. His woman says: Eat your eggs." The eggs here are the ideas that are forming in his mind but never fulfilled. It represents his ambition, hope, and dreams, in addition, Walter's children are symbolized through eggs. Walter cannot protect the unborn child or Travis, who is fragile and young like an egg as he cannot get them what they want. The cooking of the egg is the amalgamation between Walter's dreams and hopes and Travis being the future, as eggs come to fruition when scrambled and heated through conflicts.
