What is the theme of “Fire and Ice” by Robert Frost?

" Some say the world will end in fire, Some say in ice. From what I’ve tasted of desire I hold with those who favor fire. But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate To say that for destruction ice Is also great And would suffice. "

1) Human beings are able to control their emotions.
2)Unchecked emotions are potentially destructive.
3)The power of desire is greater than the power of hate.
4)Misunderstanding destroys relationships.

Respuesta :

I would say option 2 because it shows how the destruction is brought upon

The correct answer is 2. Unchecked emotions are potentially destructive.

Explanation:

The theme of a poem or any other literary text refers to the underlying idea or message all the elements in a poem aim at conveying and that is commonly linked to one position or idea about life. In the case of the poem presented,  the author states he believes the world will end because of fire that is linked to desire but can also end because of ice that is linked to hate. This implies for the author both hate and desire are emotions that can be equally destructive and therefore both can end with the world especially if these emotions are not checked or controlled. This shows the theme or underlying idea in this poem is "unchecked emotions are potentially destructive".
