Shirley Chrisholm  is the first African-American woman to be in the Congress of United States. Her speech focused on equal rights for women. Basing on her personal experiences, she stated, "...in the political world, I have been far oftener discriminated against because I am a woman than because I am black". During this speech, she also proposed her solution to this social issue which is the Equal Rights Amendment.
