He wanted to go home so he prayed to the Gods, it worked because Athena talk to Zeus and explained him the situation, and Zeus send Hermes to tell Calypso that she must let Odysseus go. Calypso wasn't happy with the idea but eventually she obbeys and even help Odysseus build a boat for him to go.
