Ether is a class of organic compounds that are made up of compounds that possess an ether group. Structurally, ether group is made up of an oxygen atoms that is connected to two alkyl groups, that is, R - O - R. Ether can be classified either as simple or mixed ether depending on the type of alkyl groups that they have. An ether is described as simple ether if its two alkyl groups are the same; if the two alkyl groups are different then it is described as mixed ether.
