You could also change the mixed number to an improper fraction...

rule:  a b/c=(ac+b)/c

2(1 3/4)

2(7/4)

14/4 simplify

7/2 which can be changed back to a mixed number

(6+1)/2

6/2+1/2

3+1/2

3 1/2

or you could just represent your mixed fraction as a decimal

2(1.75)

3.5
