Islam had a HUGE yet unknown impact on society. In school that subject is nearly completely skipped. (Notice the several hundred years gap between the Dark Ages and the Renaissance--that was the golden age for the rest of the world and when the Islamic Empire ruled at its best).

Lets take a stroll in time.

The Golden Age of the Islamic Empire lasted roughly from the mid-eighth century to the 13th century. The Muslim world was the center of intellectual activity and Baghdad served as a capital for philosophers, mathematicians, and scientists. Mathematics, language, astronomy, and even medicine were big parts of their work, and their effects can still be seen today. An Arab Mathematician, al-Kwharazmi, wrote several important books on math, which included how to solve quadratic equations (thanks a lot Kwharazmi!) using both words and letters represent numerical values (which is a common practice today).

Get ready for something mind-blowing.

His name translated to "Algorithmi", and you guessed it, thats where Algorithm  came from.

Point is, math was on of their very strong suites, and they have impacted us in unimaginable ways, and yet we haven't learned about them and their advanced society at an early age.
