The ear is divided into three parts that are: The outer ear, the inner ear and the middle ear.
The outer ear and the middle ear collects and transmits the sound waves but it is the inner ear which converts sound waves into an electrical impulse as the inner ear consists of cochlea which is a snail shaped organ, lined with delicate cilia which is responsible for converting the sound waves to electrical impulse.
When the vibration is received from the middle ear, the vibrations of these cilia is converted to nerve impulses which are transmitted by auditory nerve to the brain for the interpretation as the sound.
