On September 15, 1950, during the Korean War (1950-53), U.S. Marines force made a surprise amphibious landing at the strategic port of Inchon, on the west coast of Korea, about 100 miles south of the 38th parallel and 25 miles from Seoul.
This city of Inchon which was acquired by the U.S. Marines was a place of great significance. This city was actually captured by Mac Arthur, the U.S. General throughout the Korean war. Mac Arthur took control of the area through the port by striking a region distant from the actual spot of combat. The control of the city of Inchon proved to be a turning point in the Korean war as it cut off the Korean supply chain.
