Describe how a researcher might use naturalistic observation, case studies, and survey research to investigate gender differences in aggressive behavior at the workplace? First state a hypothesis and then describe your research approaches. What positive and negative features does each method have?

Respuesta :

To discover whether gender has anything to do with aggression in the work place we have to have access to any filed complaints in many of the similar work conditions, and then tally the number of male and female individuals that were part of the disputes. After coming up with two rows of statistics for numerous workers over a long period comparison of stats would prove that one or the other would be more likely to act aggressive in that tested work environment.

If you were going to do this experiment with an independent variable, instead of computing the data, you are going to have to set up women on one side and men on the other <CV, and see how they handle an imposed stimulus for frustration <IV.

A hypothesis about the relationship between gender and aggressiveness in the work environment could be that the male gender is more likely to develop aggressive behaviors.

Scientists can use research methods as follows:

  • Through the opinion survey, the researcher can gather a large number of volunteers and ask each one what experiences they have had with aggressive behavior in the work environment and whether this behavior was exhibited by men or women.
  • The advantage of this method is the simplicity and speed of the result, the disadvantage is the lack of precision and certainty of honest answers.
  • Through the case study, the researcher can look for a company that has been the site of aggressive behavior. In this company, the researcher will interview employees, analyze the environment, observe triggers that encourage behavior, analyze the working hours and any other element that may contribute to aggressive behavior.
  • The advantage of this method is the ability to evaluate the variables in detail, the disadvantage is the lack of reliability in the elements observed, as they can be modified by the company.
  • Through naturalistic observation, the researcher can observe individuals in their work environments, analyzing how they act and taking notes on the behavior of each one.
  • The advantage of this method is the speed of analysis, the disadvantage is that, by knowing that they are being observed, individuals can manipulate their behavior.

In this case, we can say that the researcher should choose the method with less relevant disadvantages that can be reduced.
