Respuesta :

Her husband was killed in an accident

Answer:

The correct answer about the even that furnishes the climax is

A. Louise recognizes that her husband’s death means she is free.

Explanation:

In Kate Chopin's "The Story of an Hour", the main character is Louise Mallard. At the very beginning of the story, we are told she has a heart condition that may kill her in case she gets shocked or surprised by something. Her sister and a friend are, for that reason, very careful when letting her know that, according to a couple of sources, Mr. Mallard has died.

Mr. Mallard's death is NOT the climax of the story. The climax takes place while Louise in locked up in her bedroom, reflecting about his death. To her own surprise, even though she loved him very much, Louise realizes she is suddenly free. She can finally do and be whatever she wants, not having to ask for anyone's permission. She looks out of the window and finds out that the world did not stop turning, that life did not stop existing because of her husband's death.

After the climax, in the falling action, to readers' surprise as well as Louise's, Mr. Mallard shows up very much alive. She dies upon seeing him, and her death is mistakenly seen as caused by joy, when it was in fact the result of disappointment.
