Respuesta :

a. April 3rd, 1865, the Union captured the Confederate capitol of Richmond, VA. This was sign that the end of the war was near. The Confederate army made the bad choice to flee the capital on the evening of April 2nd. The next morning, Union troops invaded. The Union was ecstatic and there were even accounts of the women "dancing, hugging, and kissing" but the Confederate army had a fear of dread and knew it was only time before their run was over.

b. This was the largest Civil War battle fought in the Civil War AND in America. There were about 80,000 Union soldiers and 75,000 Confederate soldiers. The Confederate won this battle, but due to his relentless fighting over several days, Lee's army failed. The Union opened fire on Confederate troops from all sides. This caused a lot of casualties on the Confederate side (less than half the Confederate soldiers survived).

c. The Battle of Antietam was a battle fought 9-17-1862. This battle is important because this was the first battle in the Civil War fought on American soil and also the first place where Robert E. Lee and George McClellan faced off. Two other important events that makes this battle stand out is this gave Abraham Lincoln the facts he needed to write the Emancipation Proclamation AND also because it was the bloodiest battle fought with over 22,000 lives lost.  The Union outnumbering the Confederate meant nothing because the Confederate won, but the Union was able to stop the advancement of the Confederate army to the North.

d. July 21, 1861, armies of both sides fought in Virginia. This was the first major land battle of the Civil War. 35,000 Union army met 20,000 Confederate armies. The Confederate won and this gave the south a surge of confidence. This cause the North be shocked, because this proved that this was gonna be long war.

I researched and typed all of this, lol. Good luck
