I think the birth of universities and public schools had been the two elements that changed regarding Education. During the colonial era, only the middle and upper class are allowed to learn. Thomas Jefferson believed that to attain democracy one must educate. Many states have offered education to many local children. However, not everyone came. Slaves were not given the right to attend while the poor children have to lend their hand in the farms to earn extra income for their families
Universities were found after the implementation of public schools. Universities were implemented because of the educational reform movement which created an educational system. This educational system was leveled according to the degree of understanding and the age of the students. The educational system allowed children , regardless of their color and race, to get free education
