The Midwestern United States ( the Midwest ), occupies the northern central part of the United States.  It is one of the four census regions of the United States Census Bureau ( also known as region 2 ).

The Midwest consists of the following 12 states :

Illinois  Indiana, Iowa, Kansan, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Arkansas is a state in the southern region of the United States.
